3 rules for turning ideas into results

Most dentists get stuck in idea overload.

They write down every thought, attend CE courses, and collect pages of notes.

But nothing actually changes in the practice.

I know because I used to do the same thing. I would fill notebooks with “good ideas” and then let them sit. It felt exciting at first, but eventually it became overwhelming.

What I learned is simple: ideas only matter if you execute on them.

Here are 3 rules that helped me shift from hoarding ideas to creating results:

1. One idea at a time.

You cannot execute on everything at once. Pick the highest-leverage idea and block out distractions until it is done.

2. Bank the rest.

I created a Notion page called “future ideas.” Everything goes there. That way it is documented, but it does not clutter my focus. I rarely look back, and that is fine.

3. Say no often.

Every yes is really a no to something else. The more you protect your time and attention, the more you actually finish.

The bottom line: Execution creates momentum. Ideas without action just create clutter.

If you want to see how I help dentists move past “ideas” and actually execute a predictable aligner system, I put together a free training:

Video of the Week

If your hygienists aren’t scanning — you’re leaving clear aligner cases, patient trust, and practice growth on the table.

When I first tried to get my team onboard with wellness scans, I made the mistake every dentist makes: I didn’t involve them. I just told them what to do. And guess what? They resisted. Pushed back. Delayed. Ignored.

Sound familiar?

The truth is: ✅ Scans won’t start without buy-in. ✅ Buy-in doesn’t happen without communication. ✅ Communication doesn’t work if all you ever give is criticism.

In this video, I break down exactly how I shifted from doing all the work myself to building a team that scans patients DAILY — without pushback.

You’ll learn:

  • How to start the scan conversation inside hygiene (and why it MUST start there)
  • What to say when your hygienists claim they “don’t have time”
  • Why reps should support — not lead — your training
  • The mindset shift your team needs to make scanning part of your standard of care
  • How 2 scans a day leads to effortless case starts (without hard selling)

Whether you’re brand new to aligners or scaling case volume, none of it works without team alignment.

This is where it starts. Watch this.

When I first started teaching aligners, a lot of people asked me the same question... “Which brand do you use?” They wanted me to say one name. Invisalign. SureSmile. ClearCorrect. OrthoSnap. CandidPro. But the truth is, I do not care about the brand. What matters is the doctor. What matters is the patient. And what matters most is that the case gets started. Most dentists get stuck obsessing over which aligner company is better. They spend months debating marketing claims, lab fees, and...

I used to watch minor cracks and crowding “just to be safe.” I thought waiting meant I was being conservative. One patient came back six months later with a cracked molar. She asked me, “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” That question stung. I realized “waiting” wasn’t protecting my patients — it was protecting my own fears. If you’re stuck, try this instead: Diagnose what you see clearly and early Explain risks of delaying treatment in simple language Give patients all the info so they can...

Most dentists overcomplicate aligner conversations. I used to do the same. I’d say things like “We could straighten your teeth” or “It’s an option if you’re interested.” Sounds harmless, right? But those words signal uncertainty and make patients feel like it’s not important. Once I started confidently saying, “We need to correct your crowding to protect your teeth long-term,” everything changed. Patients listened. They understood it wasn’t just cosmetic — it was health-driven. If you’re not...
